BlackRadioIsBack.com Music Video: J. Bully

Happy Friday to our readers here at BlackRadioIsBack.com and the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast!

Durham, North Carolina Hip-Hop MC, Morehouse College gradate, radio personality and Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Practice at Duke University in the Department of Music (where he designed and teaches a course on Hip-Hop/Rap Music appreciation), J. Bully (formerly known as Jugga the Bully back in the late 1990s) has been grinding for a minute.

Through his history of being a part of high profile MC Battles (Blaze Magazine, former Source Magazine Atlanta MC Battle Champ, and a standout performer on BET's 106&Park Freestyle Friday in 2003), having a single that hit the Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B Sales Charts in 2002 ("Ridiculous" b/w "Y'all Know" that was produced by Nitti, the creator of Boyz N Da Hood's hit single "Them Boyz"), a controversial single back in the late 1990s calling out New York City's DJ Clue ("F*** Clue") and his constant grind of releasing singles and mixtapes, J. Bully has been making himself heard loudly in the local North & South Carolina scenes and internationhally.

Now with The Mogul Group (which folks joined in in 2006), J. Bully has a lot of projects coming out to showcase his brand of "Educated Thug Music), including an upcoming full album dropping this year with fellow N.C. producer K. Hill (Bully-Hill) and other projects with songs in the works that include production with 9th Wonder, 88 Keyz, Ski Beatz, DJ Toomp and others.

Give the video and look and listen...hope you enjoy!

BlackRadioIsBack.com New Music: Julian Casablancas, Santogold & N.E.R.D.

What's good everyone,

The sneaker folks over at Converse have released the music track "My Drive Thru" featuring Julian Casablancas of the Strokes, Santogold & N.E.R.D. as part of their Converse Century Celebration promotional campaign to celebrate 100 years of being in the business.

Personally, I think the song is pretty hot - it gives off to me an old school being on the beach, cruising in the convertable sort of vibe, especially with the rock guitar work going on in the mix.

Folks listening to U.S. mainstream radio would probably have the more adventurous DJ throw this on in a set if they are not not already on the vibe of either in a Rock Music or Top 40 format (it will be absolutely amazing to see this on B.E.T. or some such thing unless the video is WAY out of the box).

What do you all think of it?

BlackRadioIsBack.com New Music & Video: Mickey Factz

What's good folks,

I've finally got a chance to check out the music of Bronx NYC independent Hip-Hop MC Mickey Factz and the GFCnewyork crew this past weekend while laid up on allergy meds (no Global Warming, yeah, OK) in the Maryland Music Lab of BlackRadioIsBack.com and the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast.

Mickey Factz was recommended to me by numerous folks who hit your folks up with insane amounts of website links, articles, etc. to check out as being one of the dope cats in the recent wave Hip-Hop Music that's taking it back to the boundary pushing electicness of when the artform began where you can your BoomBap and Street Hip-Hop joints, but there was nothing wrong with throwing in some Rock, Electro, etc. up in the mix as well with other subject matter that can be simple as all hell or go somewhere else that actually gets feet tapping and heads nodding.

There's not a term yet I know that describes this wave of Hip-Hop Music as of yet that seems to include heads like The Cool Kids, Jay Electronica, Kidz In The Hall and so forth (hopefully no description equivalent as asinine as "Neo-Soul" will sneak its way into the general populace but who knows - we could run into the term "HipsterHop" or some such s*** later), so I'll just call it good Black Music for the time being.

Thankfully, folks are happy to say that this brother is not just another part of the Internet Hipster Hype Machine - there are real skills, creativity and depth to Mickey Factz's songs and such that if someone doesn't grab him up on a decent business deal from a major label, their A&Rs need to go back to Finding A Decent Hip-Hop Artist 101 course.

Well, a decent amount of major labels need to do that anyway, but that's a whole other post for another day (along with Actually Putting Out The Decent Hip-Hop Artist's Album In The Near Future 102)....

Give the latest mixtape by Mickey Factz a listen for yourself and let folks know what you think...

BlackRadioIsBack.com Video: Nas

Here's the new video from Queens, NY Hip-Hop MC Nas from the upcoming The N album on Def Jam...what do y'all think?

It's definitely an interesting video and gives more impact to the song, personally. When I first heard this track, it was kind of a this is cool, but a "been there, done that" vibe to it, more so because of the previous history of groups as old school Hip-Hop as Public Enemy to independent cats such as NYOil hitting the topic and the previous publicty campaign for the original title (N***ger) that seemed a bit to ready for 21st Century PR soundbites.

The songs leaked so far from "The N" are making the album look like its going to be worth the while to cop in the stores, on the 'net, etc. and hopefully, will not end up being something along the "meh, it's aiight" lines of recent Nas' albums like Streets Disciple and Hip-Hop Is Dead.

Check it out:

Nas - Be a N****r Too

BlackRadioIsBack.com New Music: C-Rayz Walz & Kosha Dillz

What's good again folks,

Got some more high quality independent Hip-Hop music for heads to check out...

Throughout my grind DJing and hitting up events in the New Jersey/NYC Hip-Hop circutfor the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast and writing for BlackRadioisBack.com for the past few years, I've ran into a lot of dope Hip-Hop music from Hip-Hop MCs C-Rayz Walz (part of the world famous NYC Stronghold crew along with Hip-Hop MCs L.I.F.E Long, Stelf Index(P-Pullz), Poison Pen, Breez Evahflowin, Wiz, Mic Terror, Dj Static, Immortal Technique and Swave) and Kosha Dillz (back during when the dude called himself KD Flow back in the days when I was an undergrad at Rutgers, which makes me feel old as hell now - LOL) on the solo tip.

Now, in a recording period of 24 hours with rock and jazz influenced production handled by the young up-and-coming producer Kentron Da Mastadon, both MCs have put out an extremely on point collaboration project, Freestyle vs. Written,on Modular Moods Recordings (home of MCs like Y-Love and such) that's going to officially drop September 15, 2008 worldwide (August 26, 2008 on iTunes).

Check out the entire upcoming album below in this streaming player and let folks know what you think - personally, this is one of the few releases lately I'm actually looking forward to dropping in a very long minute from the Hip-Hop Nation:

Add C Rayz Walz & Kosha Dillz to your page

My personal favorite tracks that folks would rock heavy on this album (in this order): The Evolution of Fan, Freestyle vs. Written, Holiday, Bong Bong, The Foolish Path
