I haven't done one of these post in a while and it was just the proper time before the year ends...

Shanice released her second album, the platinum selling soul LP Inner Child , in 1991 as a teenager and "I Love Your Smile" was one of her really big hits off of that on all radio formats (I know I couldn't not hear that track on the local Black Radio stations around the way like WKYS, WPGC or what was essentially my parent's station, Majic 102.3 around the DC Metro as a youngin').

Looking back, Inner Child is a good album that's aged well throughout the years (there is a cover of Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You" that is great) and no one can deny that her vocal range is crazy.

According to her website and MySpace page, she still on the grind performing and has a new album coming out in 2008 for folks to check out.

This video brings me back to around the beginning of middle school (long enough of a time ago for Tom Joyner to bring her on his Sky Show and make me feel like an old woman seeing it on TV One) and the song always just gives me a good light-hearted vibe.

It's nice to listen to a music joints that has young folk singing about actually doing innocent, young folk things and thoughts.

* sides eyes B2K, Bow Wow & Omarion, etc. *

Some Interesting factoids from Wikipedia listing: She's married to comedian Flex Alexander and has 2 childrem with him. Shanice also did backup vocals for Toni Braxton's hit "Unbreak My Heart" and played Eponine in the Broadway musical "Les Miserables" for a hot minute.

Here goes the video:

In all honesty, since a lot of U.S. Policital stuff happens undercover and behind the scenes, this would not surprise me if this story is true in the least.

Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul refutes the claims in the article (and those are linked below), naturally.

In the meantime, while doing YouTube debates and whatnot, this story hasn't really been covered heavily by mainstream media sources.

We'll see what's good at the end of the day - here's the story (thanks to AfricanAmericanHistory.TV for hitting me with this):

White Supremacist Leader Insists Ron Paul Is Racist
Posted by Sara Robinson, Orcinus at 6:11 AM on December 28, 2007.

ORIGINAL SOURCE: Alternet.org

Obviously, this isn't what Paul's supporters want to hear. Well, don't say we didn't warn you about Ron Paul's friends.

Photobucket BILL WHITE

Here's American National Socialist Workers Party leader Bill White, coming out big for Paul on the far-right Vanguard News Network site on December 20:

Comrades:

I have kept quiet about the Ron Paul campaign for a while, because I didn't see any need to say anything that would cause any trouble. However, reading the latest release from his campaign spokesman, I am compelled to tell the truth about Ron Paul's extensive involvement in white nationalism.

Both Congressman Paul and his aides regularly meet with members of the Stormfront set, American Renaissance, the Institute for Historic Review, and others at the Tara Thai restaurant in Arlington, Virginia, usually on Wednesdays. This is part of a dinner that was originally organized by Pat Buchanan, Sam Francis and Joe Sobran, and has since been mostly taken over by the Council of Conservative Citizens.

I have attended these dinners, seen Paul and his aides there, and been invited to his offices in Washington to discuss policy.

For his spokesman to call white racialism a "small ideology" and claim white activists are "wasting their money" trying to influence Paul is ridiculous. Paul is a white nationalist of the Stormfront type who has always kept his racial views and his views about world Judaism quiet because of his political position.

I don't know that it is necessarily good for Paul to "expose" this. However, he really is someone with extensive ties to white nationalism and for him to deny that in the belief he will be more respectable by denying it is outrageous -- and I hate seeing people in the press who denounce racialism merely because they think it is not fashionable.

Bill White, Commander
American National Socialist Workers Party

Obviously, this isn't what Paul's supporters want to hear. (The reactions from the VNN commentors ranged from "Some one ban this piece of shit for the no outing rule" to "I know alot of white supremacist involved in the Ron Paul campaign. I wish he would not shun away from his true supporters. I will stick with him till the ened but he shouldn't act like a typical politiician" to "This motherfucker needs a special bullet." Yes, the unique spelling is all their very own; follow the link above and read the threads for more holiday joy in this vein.) While White is hardly the most reliable reporter on any subject, his testament to Paul's racist credentials does tend to corroborate what Dave and I have been telling you all along: Paul's got longstanding connections to the looniest loonies on the loony right. You may not be able to hear the dog-whistle code in his speeches, but they sure as hell hear it loud and clear.

We've also been telling you that it's not just that Paul shows up for their events: he also takes their money. There's an old saying in politics that ya gotta dance with them what brung ya -- and guys like Bill White are the ones that brung Paul to Congress in the first place. On December 19, the day before White's helpful VNN endoresment, the AP caught Paul in mid-tango, this time with Stormfront.org founder Don Black:

Paul keeps donation from white supremacist

Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has received a $500 campaign donation from a white supremacist, and the Texas congressman doesn't plan to return it, an aide said Wednesday.

Don Black, of West Palm Beach, recently made the donation, according to campaign filings. He runs a Web site called Stormfront with the motto, "White Pride World Wide." The site welcomes postings to the "Stormfront White Nationalist Community."

"Dr. Paul stands for freedom, peace, prosperity and inalienable rights. If someone with small ideologies happens to contribute money to Ron, thinking he can influence Ron in any way, he's wasted his money," Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said. "Ron is going to take the money and try to spread the message of freedom."

"And that's $500 less that this guy has to do whatever it is that he does," Benton added.

Black said he supports Paul's stance on ending the war in Iraq, securing U.S. borders and his opposition to amnesty for illegal immigrants.

"We know that he's not a white nationalist. He says he isn't and we believe him, but on the issues, there's only one choice," Black said Wednesday. "We like his stand on tight borders and opposition to a police state," Black told The Palm Beach Post earlier.

On his Web site, Black says he has been involved in "the White patriot movement for 30 years."

Evidently, when it comes to Paul's status as a white nationalist, Mr. Black and Mr. White need to get their stories straight. But anyone on the left who continues to deny that Paul has maintained long, significant, and productive relationships with racists and anti-democratic "patriots" is, at this point, living in a denial zone worthy of Donald Rumsfeld.

An update, courtesy of Brad DeLong, for the benefit of visiting commenters who are even now tuning up for another chorus of "It's not like he's a racist or anything...":

UPDATE II Ron Paul's campaign spokesperson has refuted White's claims. Read about it here.
I recieved this video clip while eyeballing MySpace (thanks Freedom Development Group Inc.) and felt that I should share it with everyone.

In case you're doing some criminal dirt (drug dealing, pushing unregistered guns, money laundering, etc.) and aren't using smoke signals or something while your cell phone is in range, you're pretty much doomed.

For the aveage man, this means the government has the ability to get more in your personal business - not a good look whether you're doing wrong or not legally (since we know at times legality and morality of doing things right sometimes don't cross-intersect in society).

Remember, this is what folks are publicly showing society, you KNOW there is some other mess out there that's technologically crazy to check people out if they want to.

Just some food for thought....

What's up everyone,

This is a situation I never knew about until this article was e-mailed to me and hope to get more information about what's good as time passes by.

I'm definitely sure that someone from DJ Kool Herc's side will be saying some things as well as other commentators from within and outside of the Hip-Hop music community.

We know we're in an age where the Black Music form of Hip-Hop is in flux in regards to how it is viewed on a historically and current social, cultural, political and economic basis with its impact not just in the United States, but all over the world.

It's reasonable to want to make sure that the image that you have as an artist, business person, etc. is decent and having some say of that you did historically is completely understandable. And we can all admit that some sides of the "old school" Hip-Hop generation were done dirty by people they dealt with.

I think the situation with this article (again, granted it's short and one only has so much feedback on this situation so far as of this posting) is can this be handled internally or do outside forces (which are already trying to mess around with things anyway) have to be involved? Doing possible dirt on others in various parts of the game because you were done dirty by a manager and others is only going to have a negative effect - and in the end, we all make our livings off of each other in the music industry circle of life (plus its better to try to build before destroying things).

I think we can all have money without having to do the strong arm tatics of bringing in lawyers and such, if that's what this is about - respect as men and women has to be on both sides first and foremost for anything to happen positively.

In regards to this article, all I can say at the moment is that if folks haven't talked face to face with people about their concerns to resolve some issues and went straight to the legal arena, then it's not a good look at all in general for how the Hip-Hop community handles and self-regulates itself, its image and how it eats.

Ernie Paniccioli is the type of man (from seeing him at various events and things throughout the years) I don't see just spitting total B.S. or "beef" for fun and chuckles, so this is a pretty hardcore article to me to throw out there about some aspects of how the "old school" is handling things.

Time will reveal all, truths and falsehoods...

Check the article out below and let me know what you think...also, check out the Dallas Penn link and the comments from the readers and another response from Ernie Paniccioli...

ERNIE PANICCIOLI On Hip-Hop History, Photography and the Law…
December 21st, 2007

Editor's note: ERNEST PANICCIOLI is an award winning photo-journalist and community activist. 'The Other Side Of Hip-Hop' is the film biopic of his life and the lessons he has learned through the artistic movement called Hip-Hop. This film won the Best Documentary award at the 2007 Big Apple Film Festival.

In Rock, there were a couple of photographers who caught images of a young Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Bob Dylan, the early Beatles and The Stones.

In Hip-Hop there were a small handful of us who caught Bam, (Grand Wizard) Theodore, Lee (Quinones), Vulcan, graf kids and B-boys, as well as Public Enemy, KRS1, Rakim, Crash Crew, Cold Crush, Slick Rick, Tribe Called Quest, Latifah De La Soul, Zulu, Tony Tone, DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster(s) Flash and Caz.

Unlike Rock photographers, those of us who caught the early Hip-Hop magic have not really profited financially. Most of us have done a book or two, and with the exception of Henry Chalfant's 'Subway Art', those books have sold in fairly small numbers, to a very small audience.

Most of the money we've earned has come from sales to magazines or the occasional sale to a media outlet like a Vh1 or MTV. Once or twice I've received a call to supply images for a retro album cover or I've completed the sale for a few hundred dollars of a photo in a gallery show. Any fame or celebrity status we've acquired is in reality among our peers and a very small circle of Hip-Hop's true fans.

Now that Hip-Hop is 33 years old or somewhere in that range we would like to be able to relax and to say we were there, that we documented the early phase of this artistic movement, and we did it honestly, quietly and well. Perhaps get a few paychecks for doing a lecture or for licensing our photos to a sneaker company/clothing line, and maybe go to Vegas in a nice hotel for a 4 day package get away, but now a ugly Grinch has reared his head with threats, accusations and warnings of lawsuits. The Grinch in question is not one of the t.I.'s that typically use their lawyers like Michael Vick uses his pit bulls but none other than the alleged "Godfather of Hip-Hop", the one, the only DJ Kool Herc.

As a DJ perhaps he should rethink his verbal assaults and ask himself if he has paid royalties to every artist, record label, singer, rapper or management group for the records he spins at parties and functions. He should also ask himself what if we as the original historians of this culture decide to write him out of the history (rightly, or wrongly) of Hip-Hop?

If in films, documentaries, magazine articles, speeches, interviews on radio and TV and DVD's we decide showing images of him or even mentioning his name is too much of a hassle and headache, an outright waste of time?

As far as the law goes we are 100% within our rights to use our images of him in any way, shape or form we see fit (with the exception of using his image on clothing or merchandise), especially since none of our images were shot secretly or without his knowledge or consent and were of a PUBLIC FIGURE in A PUBLIC Setting.

Instead of DJ Kool Herc growing old gracefully and utilizing his fame, his unique position in a historic culture and notoriety as a vehicle to get paid properly by global entertainment vehicles such as radio, television and even the Internet as Fab 5 Freddy does or doing DJ gigs that he could command top dollar for, or even getting his own radio show, he has decided to attack, threaten, abuse, hassle and harangue those of us who helped push his face, fame, name and reputation to the world long before the anyone knew or even cared about Hip-Hop.

If he decides to hire some sorry, inept, cut rate shyster to file papers against all of us, or even ONE of us photographers I suggest we unite and fight him with a fury. Not just to protect ourselves in this instance, but to allow us to freely practice our chosen craft that we have used to give so much to so many for so long and for so little.

In unity,
Ernie Paniccioli

Ghostface Killah of Wu-Tang Clan has a commerical hyping up his $400 doll/action figure/collectible...

Just peep out this joint because I truly have no words (NSFW by the way - keep the speakers low)...

* dead * as hell at the quotables and visuals on this joint:

GFK saying "Your kids will f***ing love it!"

Using the jail phone to call up for one (how, on commisary?)

The GFK doll having the "Special Delivery RMX" video (quite possibly one of the last great Bad Boy Records videos and remixes) gear with the robe and jewelery with the big a** eagle bracelet and the gold plate medallion.

The GFK doll's rap quotable on the commerical saying “Remember when I long-d**ked you and broke ya f*ckin’ ovary?” and the little girls facial expression after hearing it.

For those who celebrate it today, Merry Christmas from the BlackRadioIsBack.com crew! :)
What's good everyone,

Here is another week in the building where I'm hitting up the people some more some free promotional mixtapes and mixtape podcasts for download that are pretty on point - not just from the FuseBox Radio/BlackRadioIsBack.com crew, but from all over the place.

I'm going to be on vacation from the December 28th until the January 3rd, 2008 (2-0-0-Ocho) to celebrate the birthday (New Year's Eve, chea), so more likely than not, I won't be posting up too many posts on here during that time (if any) and wanted to hit those folks who check out the site a little something musically to hold folks over.

From my peoples who hit me with hard copies or e-mails of submissions, suggestions, websites and bootleg men (yes, for real, those "hit up so and so for the hot s***" info dropped on me) in the past few weeks of various mixtape releases (thanks to everyone for that), I thank y'all a lot for supporting this venture.

So your blank CDs ready for these 7 joints and support the local mixtape bootleg man/mom and pop store, DJ, website, etc.

DJs, if you do good mixtapes of Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock, House, Reggae, Classics or are a music artist with your mixtape album out you don't mind having posted as promo on the web, feel free to hit the BlackRadioIsBack.com family up at blackradioisback@gmail.com with a link to your mixtape with cover and tracklisting - hopefully, we'll put your joint up on here.

NOTE (as always):

PLEASE don't send me no B.S. with folks:

A. Yelling loud as hell over the song on some fake DJ Clue/DJ Kay Slay/DJ Khaled/Funkmaster Flex ish and I can't hear the damned song but 10 seconds of it (mics have volume control...thanks)

B. Mixtape "exclusives" that are on the radio - if its dope its dope, don't need the fake labeling

C. Overall wackness

* NOTE - These mixtapes are dirty versions, no radio edits! *

I ran into this "Stay In School" music video featuring Dem Hoodstarz, E-40, Mugzi, San Quinn, Jacka, Cellski, Keak Da Sneak, Mac and AK, Erase E, Battle Loco and Kontac while going through Stash Magazine.

This was made to hit the children in the Bay Area of California due to the problems with the inner city minority children not finishing High School around that way (about 45%).

I think it's a good effort, has a good message and a pretty good song. The video is pretty cute to me too. What do y'all think?

Some real talk and flows from Hip-Hop MC Jean Grae - she's been on the underground grind for a minute and with her connection with the BlackSmith Music movement and label of Talib Kweli, she should hopefully be making some deserved noise in 2008, especially in this day and age of quality female MCs being rare in the game.

On this Real TV clip, there's also some talk from classic DJ Tony Touch about his career and the reggaeton movement.

Backstory on why the hell this post is even on here:

I am crazy bored at the 9 to 5 today since the day is going by terribly slow and I'm actually a pretty good employee who has their paperwork done in advance.

So I'm checking my e-mails, various websites and whatnot to stay awake until the magic hour when I can roll out and end up run into this link and a press release for Chingy's new album.

Personally, I thought Chingy was a rip-off of Nelly when dude first came out and hearing "Right Thurr" in constant rotation (and that was pretty much it from that album, that I remember) made me want to hit radio and video programmers upside the head with a solid steel tire iron repeatedly.

In other words, your girl isn't crazy about this dude.

I suppose for party joints, etc. that he will do with a few shots of Patron and in this day and age, Chingy isn't the most wack/ordinary/non-distintive MC cat out there - its just not my cup of tea in the least.

* shrugs * Maybe that's just my old woman status in the game.

So I tell you folks what, you can click here, give the joint a free listen and tell me what you think of this new album by him, Hate It Or Love It (* crickets * and fruitcake to whomever came up with this "creative" title * rolls eyes *).

The joint with Amerie (poor girl can't catch a break) that in rotation now, "Fly Like Me" isn't making my ears bleed, but I'm not amazed with at all either.

Should I give this a solid listen, avoid it like the plague, what? Let me know!

For those who take on this mission, here is the tracklisting:

1. Intro
2. Hate It Or Love It
3. Check My Swag
4. Fly Like Me (w/ Amerie)
5. Kick Drum
6. Gimmie Dat (w/ Ludacris & Bobby Valentino)
7. All Aboard (Ride It) (w/ Steph Jones)
8. Trickin' Off Skit
9. Spend Some $
10. 2 Kool 2 Dance
11. Lovely Ladies
12. How We Feel
13. Roll On 'Em (w/ Rick Ross)
14. Blockstar

Since it's a quiet day at the 9 to 5 due to the holiday period here in the States (a.k.a. big bosses and other start slowly taking off until Christmas), I was able to listen to some more mixtapes and post up this R&B and Soul mixtape goodness for you folks to download for free.

Shows how much I love you all. :)

Enjoy!

This is a classic 1990s era DJ Premier produced Hip-Hop track with MCs Chubb Rock, O.C. & Jeru the Damaja on mic duty.

This song is from a pretty decent ("C+" to "B" grade, my personal opinon) Spike Lee movie, Clockers (it's not as good as School Daze or Malcolm X at all, but the movie is WAY better than WTF types of filmmaking mess from Spike like Girl 6 and She Hate Me - I'm still mad I spent money to see the latter for real).

Everyone absolutely murders their respective verses on here and doesn't do the "I'll just say some bulls*** and coast because the beat is fantastic" action.

Personally, it alternates between Chubb Rock's and Jeru's verses in terms of which is my favorite depending on my mood (young, gifted & black with mellow annoyance - Jeru's; young, gifted & black and ornery - Chubb Rock's).

All of these brothers still make their appearances on the Hip-Hop music scene - and aren't embarrasing - now with guest collaborations on singles and recent self-released album material (O.C. and Jeru the Damaja mainly, I think Chubb Rock is working on some new full length stuff).

Besides this song, the entire Clockers Movie Soundtracks are high quality - the jazz score version by Terrance Blanchard is off the chain and on the soundtrack compilation Chaka Khan's "Love Me Still" is a great R&B track along with solid joints from Seal, Mega Banton, Des'ree, Marc Dorsey and others.

Here we go with the video...enjoy:

What's good everyone,

Here is another week in the building where I'm hitting up the people some more some free promotional mixtapes and mixtape podcasts for download that are pretty on point - not just from the FuseBox Radio/BlackRadioIsBack.com crew, but from all over the place.

I had a whole lot of e-mails of submissions, websites and bootleg men in the past few weeks of various mixtape releases (thanks to everyone for that) and luckily have a more than a few new quality joints for the people - enough to the point this week where instead of the usual 5 mixtapes, I'm going to hit you with 10 joints.

So your blank CDs ready and support the local mixtape (well, I guess mix CD now in this technological age and whatnot - haven't seen an actual cassette tape with a mix in over 10 years) bootleg man/mom and pop store, website, etc.

For my DJs, if you do good mixtapes of Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock, House, Reggae, Classics or are a music artist with your mixtape album out you don't mind having posted as promo on the web, feel free to hit the BlackRadioIsBack.com family up at blackradioisback@gmail.com with a link to your mixtape with cover and tracklisting - hopefully, we'll put your joint up on here.

NOTE:

PLEASE don't send me no B.S. with folks:

A. Yelling loud as hell over the song on some fake DJ Clue/DJ Kay Slay/DJ Khaled/Funkmaster Flex ish and I can't hear the damned song but 10 seconds of it (mics have volume control...thanks)

B. Mixtape "exclusives" that are on the radio - if its dope its dope, don't need the fake labeling

C. Overall wackness

* NOTE - These mixtapes are dirty versions, no radio edits! *

Here goes:
