Watch, learn and care...unfortunately, this insanity of missing Black Children and Women due to abduction, violence, etc. happens every day and very rarely gets the attention that this issue needs due to various biases, etc. in our mainstream media outlets.

Shouts to the Black and Missing (But Not Forgotten) for the information about the Saving Our Children organization!
What's Good To The BlackRadioIsBack.com Family,

PLEASE take out a little bit of time in your day to do the survey below for this young man's PhD Dissertation.

It would be really appreciated and folks do want to know your voice and opinon's on these political issues, especially in this Presidential Election cycle in the U.S.

Thanks alot! - DJ Fusion/FuseBox Radio/BlackRadioIsBack.com

******************************

The purpose of this survey is to examine how people think and feel about the political issues, parties, and candidates in the upcoming election. In the survey, you will be asked a series of questions about two political candidates, John McCain and Hillary Clinton. We are very interested in how individuals that find information on the web think about politics, and your participation would be greatly appreciated. In total, the survey should take about 15 minutes to complete. The survey is completely anonymous and you can skip any questions you do not wish to answer.

Stephen "Static" Garrett (November 11, 1974 – February 25, 2008)

R.I.P. to another talented young man (who's passing at 33 years old of a brain aneurysm was a great shock) whos strong contributions to 20th century modern era Black Music will be deeply missed.

After his start with the 1990s R&B group Playa, Stephen "Static" Garrett used his skills in writing to be the creative force behind any of the great R&B and Soul Music hits of the 1990s, including songs by Ginuwine ("Pony"), Nas ("You Owe Me") and Jay-Z ("Change The Game") and Aaliyah ("Are You That Somebody," "Try Again," "More Than A Woman" and "Rock The Boat").

He also did collaborative work with artists like Pretty Ricky, David Banner, Diddy, Brandy, Jamie Foxx, Destiny's Child, Timbaland & Magoo and Truth Hurts.

Static was also about to release an album this year, Suppertime, as Static/Major and had the single "I Got My" featuring Lil Wayne starting to climb the charts.

The BlackRadioIsBack.com family extends our condolences to his family, friends and fans.

What do y'all think of the current joints so far?

I'm feeling the music from this album so far way more than the 20 Y.O. joint that dropped a few years back as of right now (though both albums so far are lacking producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who were behind a lot of Janet's really quality and classic music tracks).

After being in the music biz of Soul and Pop Music since essentially being born into the Jackson family (of Michael Jackson, The Jackson 5, etc.) and selling over 100 million records, I can't be mad at Janet still being on the grind and putting out at least decent music for heads (unlike the recent slide of fellow 1980s pop star Madonna into bleh dance tracks in the past 5 - 8 years - American Life anyone?).

Bonus Video #1: Janet Jackson - Feedback (from Discipline LP)

Bonus Video #2: Janet Jackson - Together Again (classic Janet Jackson from Velvet Rope LP)

What's good everyone,

Folks here at BlackRadioIsBack.com and the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast are back again to jump off with some new and classic mixtape posts for y'all. :)

This is our weekly section where BlackRadioIsBack.com hits up the people some more some free promotional mixtapes and mixtape podcasts for download that are pretty on point - not just from the FuseBox Radio/BlackRadioIsBack.com crew, but from all over the place.

To all of my peoples who hit me with hard copies or e-mails of mixtape and mixshow submissions, suggestions, websites and bootleg men (yes, for real, those "hit up so and so for the hot s***" info dropped on me) of various mixtape releases, I thank y'all a lot for supporting this venture.

So your blank CDs ready for these ten joints and support the local mixtape bootleg man/mom and pop store, DJ, website, etc.

For my DJs, if you do good mixtapes of Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock, House, Reggae, Classics or are a music artist with your mixtape album out you don't mind having posted as promo on the web, feel free to hit the BlackRadioIsBack.com family up at blackradioisback@gmail.com with a link to your mixtape with cover and tracklisting - hopefully, we'll put your joint up on here in the future.

NOTE (as always):

PLEASE don't send me no B.S. with folks:

A. Yelling loud as hell over the song on some fake DJ Clue/DJ Kay Slay/DJ Khaled/Funkmaster Flex ish and I can't hear the damned song but 10 seconds of it (mics have volume control...thanks)

B. Mixtape "exclusives" that are on the radio - if its dope its dope, don't need the fake labeling

C. Overall wackness

* NOTE - These mixtapes are dirty versions, no radio edits! *

Check The BlackRadioIsBack.com Mixtape Of The Week Archives when you get a chance!

What's good everyone,

We're blessed to have some more folks climbing on board with the BlackRadioIsBack.com writing staff to hit up events, reviews, etc. to get information to the heads.

My peoples EarthGirl of ETE (Earthtones Entertainment, check her many works out here) was at the Sean John Fashion Show during New York City's Fashion Week Events earlier this month and has some first hand coverage of the event.

Check it out and hope that everyone enjoys this article and others from her in the future.

Here goes:

So what's Black and Hot at Fashion Week?

That would of course be Sean John, closing the week of fashion in NYC with his show @ Caprini Midtown East.

Yes, Diddy does it again showcasing his Fall '08 line of dress casual mens wear sported appropiately by fine, lean men of color from dark chocolate deluxe to vanila chai, featuring none other than our own fav super male-model, Tyson Beckford.

Donning very wearable sweaters, pants and overcoats in warm hues of brown and black, the men marched out with look after look of mod black professional, grown man style. While no one piece jumped out and wowed me, I was overall impressed with vibe, feel and look of the show from the clothes, to the dark lighting and decor.

Starting a fashionable half hour or so late, the audience filled with fab industrynistas with a front row lined with familiar faces such as Q-Tip, Fabulous, Trey Songs, Bad Boy Artist Cassie (alleged luv
interest) and Spike Lee sitting with Diddy's mom.

With a new and tight security detail, one had to remember they were not on line @ the China Club but overall the show ran smoothly.

Diddy closed the show with a last walk to Lupe Fiasco's "Superstar" and in true superstar fashion with Tyson .B by his side, Diddy flashed the crowd a huge honest grin, blowing kisses and saying gracious thank yous.

In his program, he thanked Black Fashion designing predecessors including Willi Smith, Patrick Kelly, Karl Kani, Byron Lars, Stephen Burrows, Patrick Robison, and Tracy Reese and credited them for paving the way for him live out his dream.

For once I can say Did was a class act that could make us Black Folks proud, esp. in the lily white Fashion Week arena. Yay.

You can find Love anywhere, but it's especially great to find it in unique places - at least to me.

But then again, your girl and the BlackRadioIsBack.com and FuseBox Radio staff are weirdos that way. :)

Love The Higher Power (whichever one you believe in), Yourself and Your Family (blood related or no) and True Friends (hard as hell to find, but you know when you got them) First and Foremost!

Peace! - DJ Fusion/FuseBox Radio/BlackRadioIsBack.com

Happy Valentine's Day if you celebrate it and whatnot from your folks at BlackRadioIsBack.com and the FuseBox Radio. :)

Since the folks over at Oh Word have already covered a great list of Hip-Hop Love joints, I decided before running out of here to my gig to hit folks up with one of the long lasting soul music artists who covered a lot of the ranges of emotional love, Ms. Barbara Mason.

To give a little bit of background history on her, Barbara Mason is one of the originators of the "Philly Soul" school of Soul Music, first breaking into the industry in a major way with the 1965 self-penned ballad, "Yes, I'm Ready", at 17 years old.

Ms. Mason has had a great string of Billboard charting hits that blended Soul, Jazz and Funk Music (lots of which she wrote the lyrics too) since then (interestingly enough on relatively smaller labels like Buddha, Unidisc, Artic and West End than the Motowns of the day).

Her style of singing has influenced such current Soul Music artists like Angie Stone, Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige. She now currently owns her own recording label, music production & promotion companies - Lioness Recordings, Mason Media Recordings and Marc James Music.

Since Ms. Mason came into the game young - both the music industry and life in general - and literally grew up in song, a lot of her music to me just shows the ups and downs of various love relationships and how folks interpret such things from childhood to being grown.

As you folks will see in these downloads, those emotions can range all over the place - happy to sad, matter of fact to crazy emotional, innocence to jaded, sane to bats*** crazy.

We've all been there sometime in our lives, I think, and hopefully your significant other (or hell, just you) are more on the good side of things rather then the bugging out stages of Love and Life.

Here goes the music from Ms. Mason as a gift from us to you to download - enjoy and if you're feeling it, show some love (ha) and purchase some CDs from her!

"Happy Go Lucky" Youthful Love
Barbara Mason - Yes I'm Ready (1965)

"Damn The World and Determined to Make Folks Mad At Your Actions And Talk Smack About You Being With This Character" Love
Barbara Mason - Shackin' Up

"I'm Sad That We Broke Up And I'm Really Feeling That Mess HARD" Love
Barbara Mason - Feeling Blue (2007)

"I'm Bitter After My Last Few Relationships and I Thought It Was All Good To Take Your Man And Found Out The Is Being Gay, Ain't That Some S***" Love

The Chicago Hip-Hop group Kidz in the Hall (comprised of University of Pennsylvania graduates MC Naledge and producer Double-O) have been on a steady grind putting out quality music since 2006 in the independent music scene. Folks over at Duckdown Records are going to hit folks for a second time with a Buckshot & 9th Wonder collaborative LP, The Formula, this April as well. The first album they did together, Chemistry, was pretty fire and hopefully, we'll get the same vibe with this joint.

9th Wonder's been on fire lately with his production for folks (especially with the Erykah Badu "Honey" single) and Buckshot has been dropping quality verse as a Hip-Hop MC since the early Black Moon days (and on the grind as of late doing music for ESPN’s 2008 Men’s College Basketball Programming and producing the title track for The History Channel’s “Gangland” series), so I'm thinking that shouldn't be any issue.

We got some singles and the tracklisting for this album to glance at and ponder until the project drops:

Buckshot & 9th Wonder - The Formula LP (Release Date: 4/15/2008 on Duckdown Records)

Hey there folks,

We have some new Jazz Music for heads to check out over here at BlackRadioIsBack.com...folks haven't covered a Jazz Vocalist in a minute, so here goes:

Lizz Wright had two pretty nice albums released in the past few years that showed off her cool vocal range and style that kept the CDs in rotation (the lady is gospel trained, but is really heavy into mixing R&B and jazz) with Salt and Dreaming Wide Awake.

Here's a listen to the streams of her new single, "My Love" from the upcoming album The Orchard on Verve Records (will be dropping on February 26, 2008) for folks to check out:

Windows Media Stream
Quicktime Stream

What do y'all think of the joint? Fromi her earlier track record, I dig her work and don't see folks falling off (plus she's supposed to be working with the bro Chocolate Genius, who's albums are CRAZY).

We'll get the downloads up and ready of the single as soon as we can...

This Sunday's 50th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony was pretty decent in regards to folks who recieved awards (for the selection given and what it is).

There were a few "eh" performance moments (Alicia Keys is cool, but the entire Natalie Cole "Unforgettable" phrase of duetting with performers from the great beyond - especially if there is no personal attachment to them and you're not feeling it - needs to pretty much stop) and stuff that was just bizarre (O RLY? and WTF to Fergie even SINGING and the Rihanna and Morris Day and The Time "interesting" remix) and a taste of the 'hood (Nas' SMH N***er Shirt and Interview and Amy Winehouse shouting out "Blake Incarcerated" on some mixtape ish...wowie), but overall things weren't bad.

Heck, there were even some pleasent surprises in the mix (Herbie Hancock repping that Black Music tradition of Jazz and copping that Album of the Year award on some surprise ish and the wins by Chaka Khan, the Beastie Boys, Gerald Levert and Lupe Fiasco were that heat).

If you want to see the full list of winners, some cool pics from the event and so forth, go to the official Grammy Awards Website and to see who right or wrong the BlackRadioIsBack.com crew was about which music artist would win what award category, check out our previous Grammy Awards post.

What's good everyone,

I haven't done a Reggae Music centered BlackRadioIsBack.com Flashback Video in a while, so I decided to do one that hits up 2 great Dancehall Reggae artists doing some quality 1990s era Hip-Hop collabos and remixes (since after all, all forms of Black Music are related and whatnot) that I hope folks enjoy.

Bounty Killer

First off, I was digging through the music collection and re-discovered the Bounty Killer My Xperience album (hard as hell to find now in distribution or rotation for some reason).

Giving it a listen (a very dope hardcore Dancehall album), it was a wonder that I completely forgot about this single with the Fuguees which today is STILL that fire and ridiculously insanely good.

For some reason, all of the mp3 retailers (Rhapsody, Amazon, etc.) I hit up didn't have this particular mp3 for sale at ALL - I don't know if it's a sample clearance thing, company issues or what, but we had to make it available for y'all.

Buju Banton

Listening to the Bounty Killer album made me think about Buju Banton's Champion album, which to me is a classic and has some great roots and dancehall vibes to it.

This remix of the title track has that West Coast Hip-Hop music vibe to it - give it a listen and a download.
