Here is the new video from Soul Music singer Sy Smith from her latest album, Conflict coming out soon on the Psyko! Inc. label (distributed by MDI), called "Reach Down In Your Soul".

It's produced by talented director and musician, W. Ellington Felton (who you can check out here and here).

We've been playing her music throughout the years on the FuseBox Radio Broadcast and are really feeling what this sis brings to the table musically and things...what do you all think?

What's good everyone,

Folks here at BlackRadioIsBack.com and the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast are back again to jump off with some new and classic mixtape posts for y'all. :)

This is our weekly section where BlackRadioIsBack.com hits up the people some more some free promotional mixtapes and mixtape podcasts for download that are pretty on point - not just from the FuseBox Radio/BlackRadioIsBack.com crew, but from all over the place.

To all of my peoples who hit me with hard copies or e-mails of mixtape and mixshow submissions, suggestions, websites and bootleg men (yes, for real, those "hit up so and so for the hot s***" info dropped on me) of various mixtape releases, I thank y'all a lot for supporting this venture.

So your blank CDs ready for these eight joints and support the local mixtape bootleg man/mom and pop store, DJ, website, etc.

For my DJs, if you do good mixtapes of Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock, House, Reggae, Classics or are a music artist with your mixtape album out you don't mind having posted as promo on the web, feel free to hit the BlackRadioIsBack.com family up at blackradioisback@gmail.com with a link to your mixtape with cover and tracklisting - hopefully, we'll put your joint up on here in the future.

NOTE (as always):

PLEASE don't send me no B.S. with folks:

A. Yelling loud as hell over the song on some fake DJ Clue/DJ Kay Slay/DJ Khaled/Funkmaster Flex ish and I can't hear the damned song but 10 seconds of it (mics have volume control...thanks)

B. Mixtape "exclusives" that are on the radio - if its dope its dope, don't need the fake labeling

C. Overall wackness

* NOTE - These mixtapes are dirty versions, no radio edits! *

Check The BlackRadioIsBack.com Mixtape Of The Week Archives when you get a chance!

Known for producing for folks such as Slick Rick, Nas, Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Wu-Tang Clan, Fat Joe, Mary J. Blige, The Lox, Freeway and many other Hip-Hop heads from the 1990s to the present, Dame Grease has since contributed to the sales of over 30 million records worldwide via his company, Vacant Lot.

He has a new album project coming out on Vacant Lot Rercords/LotMusik and Babygrande Records on May 27, 2008, ""Goon Musik, Volume 1", which pays tribute to the early nineties New York Street Hip-Hop through both the production feel and the rhyme styles of the MCs participating as "The Goon Squad" (a pairing between Meeno, Tanya "T6" and NY's renowned "Lenox Ave Boyz").

Here goes:

Universal/Motown multi-platinum-selling, Grammy award-winning Soul Music singer/songwriter/actress Erykah Badu takes the spotlight with her new album New Amerykah.

Erykah Badu has enlisted some of the most talented, underground producers and engineers in the Hip-Hop game to support her fourth studio album in seven years, including producers 9th Wonder, Madlib, Sa-Ra Creative Partners, Karriem Riggins, and a host of others.

"The music is the star," says Erykah. "I just laid down my vocals and let the music breathe while the melodies tell the stories."

Emerging and established DJ's, producers/beat makers, and musicians can get in the mix as part of Erykah Badu "Real Thang" campaign and contest.

Just download the acappella version of "Real Thang", originally produced by Madlib, and remix it - that's it.

Creativity is key, so all types of remixes are welcomed (Hip-Hop, R&B/Soul, House, Broken Beat, Rock, Reggae, etc.).

The Knux are a music group of who do what they call "Garage-Hop" music.

Consisting of members Rah Almillio and Krispy Kream, this New Orleans crew of folks have been getting some shine via the independent music circut and various publications and outlets such as Complex Magazine and MTVU.

They've just been signed to Interscope Records under the Chic Freak/HHH imprint.

Give the songs a listen and check out the video...what do you all think? It's definitely a good take on the "rap/rock" sounds that isn't mad derivative and has a good groove.

This video was forwarded over to BlackRadioIsBack.com from the Angry Alien Productions folks - they do a lot of animated movie parodies and such in 30 seconds with animated bunnies (why bunnies, I have not a clue).

It's mad funny to me and gave me a laugh for the day (cute animals wilin' out always amuses me).

Bronx-born, Brooklyn raised Hip-Hop MC La The Darkman is best known as being one of the top quality MCs who was part of the Wu-Tang Clan family of affilated MCs.

His Heist of the Century album that came out in 1998, in my personal opinion, is one of the most slept on releases of that group.

Now, he is part of DJ Drama, Don Cannon and DJ Sense's Aphilliates Music Group (along with his little brother, Willie The Kid) and President of Embassy Entertainment and has an planned album release date for the Summer 2008.

For those folks who want to know more information about history of the entire Hyphy movement in Northern California (a.k.a. The Bay a.k.a. The Yay) from the music to the slang to the famous (or infamous depending on your viewpoint) activities like ghostriding, turf dancing, thizzing, etc. may want to check out this documentary coming out from Image Entertainment on June 24, 2008, GhostRide The Whip.

GhostRide The Whip is directed by DJ Vlad (Hot in Here DVD series, H20 Hip Hop On Demand), produced by Academy/Emmy-nominated Peter Spirer and narrated by Sway Calloway of URSession.com, Bay-orginated The Wake-Up Show and MTV.

Folks like Bay Area rappers E-40, Keak Da Sneak, MC Hammer, Messy Marv, Mistah FAB and many others talk about the history and mentality of Hyphy from its California Black Music Movments of Jazz, Funk and Soul from the 1950s to the Civil Rights Movements (especially the Black Panthers) to one of its most famous representatives in the game, Mac Dre.

We got the preview clip below for folks to check out of GhostRide The Whip...what do you all think?

What's up everyone,

It's been a little while, but we have a new contest for folks over here from the BlackRadioIsBack.com and syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast family.

We have four copies of the excellent new book, Standing Tall: A Memoir of Tragedy and Triumph by Rutgers University Women's Basketball Coach, C. Vivian Stringer (with Laura Tucker) to giveaway.

Just send an e-mail with the subject "BlackRadioIsBack.com Standing Tall Book Giveaway" to blackradioisback@gmail.com and we'll randomly choose the winners to ship the books to - the deadline for this contest is Saturday, April 5, 2008.

Good Luck!

Here is the Book Description from the cover for folks to see what the book is about:

“Lots of people have dreams, but C. Vivian Stringer is the dream—a coalminer’s daughter who believed when her Poppa told her there was no obstacle she could not surmount. And she lives that dream, teaching others to rise up to meet challenges, turning underdogs into champions again and again—on and off the court. This is the quintessential American story, of a woman and of a family pulling together against the odds. Standing Tall offers an important message of hope to so many.”
—John Chaney, Hall of Fame college basketball coach

At a time when heroes are too rare, C. Vivian Stringer sets a shining example. She has time and again shown character, fortitude, and heart, both on and off the hardwood, and in the face of unbearable loss. In Standing Tall, she shares her remarkable life story, inspiring us to find this fortitude within ourselves.

“Work hard, and don’t look for excuses,” Stringer’s parents told her, “and you can achieve anything.” But her faith and perseverance would be tested many times. A gifted athlete, she had to fight for a place on an all-white cheerleading squad in the sixties. In 1981, just as her coaching career was taking off, her fourteen-month-old daughter, Nina, was stricken with spinal meningitis. Nina would never walk or talk again.

Still grieving, Stringer brought a small, poor, historically black college to the national championships—a triumph hailed as “Hoosiers with an all-female cast.” In 1991, her husband, Bill—her staunchest supporter, the father of her children, and the love of her life—fell dead of a sudden heart attack, but that same year, she led yet another young team to the Final Four.

Through these dark times and others—including her bout with cancer, shared here for the first time—Stringer has carried her burdens with grace. Given her history, it was no surprise that she led her team to respond to Don Imus’s slurs with dignity and courage.

Standing Tall is a story of quiet strength in the face of punishing odds. Above all, it is an extraordinary love story—love for the game, for the players she has coached, for her close-knit family, and for the husband she lost far too soon. It will resonate long after the last page.
