BlackRadioIsBack.com Checks Out The HSAN Hip-Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment In Washington, DC - October 2007 (Late Posting with Pictures)
While going through the drafts of articles here BlackRadioIsBack.com, I realized that I was late (very late) with posting up information about this event that the FuseBox Radio/BlackRadioIsBack.com crew attended around October 2007.
While in Washington, DC visiting family, folks hit up the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Weekend events at the Washington Convention Center. Amongst a lot of the regular panels, exhibits, job fairs and other events going on those few days, the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) came through as a stop with their Hip-Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment Tour. This was the event was the one that the BlackRadioIsBack.com crew saw the most young people (I would say 30 years old and below) attending and seemed to have the most impact on its intended audience.
A lot of good and direct information, from both personal and indirect experience, was given out about how to avoid certain financial situations early (overuse of credit cards, loans, living beyond one's means, etc.) as well as the importance of saving and investing funds for whatever goals people have for themselves, whether starting up their own business to obtaining a home.
The folks who were at the panel all also recieved a free "Get Your Money Right" workbook from HSAN to use towards helping them with their financial goals (which is also available for download here).
There was a packed house for the event for the Hip-Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment, which included a diverse group of panelists such as entrepreneur Russell Simmons, activist Ben Chavis, Hip-Hop MCs Bun B of UGK and Big Daddy Kane (who brought his son along), R&B Stars Lyfe Jennings Mya and Lil' Mo and BET 106 & Park Co-Host Terrence J as well as representatives from Chrysler Financial.
Here are some pictures below of the event and the red carpet beforehand that were taken by the BlackRadioIsBack.com family - enjoy!
