R.I.P. Notorious B.I.G. - May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997
I still remember 11 years ago hearing about Hip-Hop MC Notorious B.I.G.'s death (a.k.a) Biggie Smalls a.k.a. Frank White) in my dorm room at Rutgers University while my roommate and I were listening to Hot 97 in the morning, wondering why there was no music playing and that the on air radio DJs and personalities were mad quiet and sad sounding.
It was a bugged out scenario since literally 12 hours beforehand, he was live and direct on the Soul Train Music Awards amped about getting some prizes and ready to roll with the upcoming Life After Death album (which came out a week later).
Along with fellow Hip-Hop MC Tupac Shakur, both deaths to this day are still unresolved as far as the U.S. legal system will have it.
Regardless of what folks may have thought of messages, etc. that were passed in the some of their music (and neither of these brother's were totally one-sided or monochromatic with their viewpoints of the world - artistically or otherwise - at ALL), these two young men were and are great artists in the realm of Black Music that to this day haven't been surpassed - especially in the realm of vivid, multi-dimensional viewpoints shown in Street Hip-Hop.
The amount of people still trying to imitate the larger than life personalities, style and skills should show that without question.
Biggie, you are still missed.
