What's good my Texas Hip-Hop lovers of BlackRadioIsBack.com and the FuseBox Radio Broadcast,

I felt the need to shine a bit of the spotlight on Southwest Houston's own (and also Screwed Up Click and the ABN Gang member) Trae the Truth, especially with this upcoming Streets Advocate Mixtape dropping on November 11th all over the place.

The first time I personally heard this brother on the mic was relatively late in his almost decade-long career through one of my southern connects, on the 2007 release of the Life Goes On album.

Pretty much right after that, I started copping more of his regular releases (Restless and The Truth Show are pretty dope as well), his mixtapes and checking for the bro on other artist's releases.

Besides having crazy skills, good ear for beats & production along with the ability to get folks amped (always a good thing), Trae gives some of the most direct (whether you agree with him or not) and therefore real interviews and music of a great deal of these so-called Street Hip-Hop artists.

We have a couple of tracks from the Evil Empire & Trae The Truth - Streets Advocate Mixtape for folks to cop a free download of as well as a few of Trae's videos (straight up, NSFW to blast off on the speakers without getting a side eye or worse on the language end) to get a feel of where folks are at - hope you enjoy!

This weekend, cable news channel CNN is going to give comedian D.L. Hughley (The Original Kings of Comedy) a shot doing his own weekend news & political comedy series with D.L. Hughley Breaks the News that premieres tonight (October 25, 2008) at 10 pm EST.

With the success of such shows like Comedy Central's The Daily Show and The Colbert Report along with HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, I can see the news channel seeing it as pretty smart move to enter into this realm of entertainment.

D.L. Hughley is a pretty smart brother (though I do not agree with him all of the time at all) from hearing his commentary on various radio shows like the Tom Joyner Morning Show and other outlets, so him being able to get information out there as well as being able to keep it light at the same time should probably not be an huge issue.

Now, if we could only get an acutal show with some intelligent Black Commentators and such without the comedy aspect on any of the Mainstream Media outlets, we'll me making some moves in the 21st century...

* hears crickets from the programming staff at these places *

Anyway, here's the commercial and a promotional clip for D.L. Hughley Breaks the News below for folks to check out:

Jennifer Hudson and Her Mother,Darnell Donerson (Picture from BroadwayWorld.com)

Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother slain

The American Idol veteran's relatives are gunned down in the family's Chicago home. The singer's 7-year-old nephew is reported missing.

By Robert Mitchum,, Angela Rozas and Jeremy Gorner
October 25, 2008

Reporting from Chicago -- Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson considered her mother's Chicago home a haven, a place where she could find respite from Hollywood.

That sanctuary was violently shattered Friday when her mother and brother were gunned down during a domestic dispute, law enforcement officials said. Police have named Hudson's brother-in-law as a suspect, but he has not been charged.

William Balfour, who married Hudson's sister Julia in 2006, was believed to have abducted his stepson, but when he was arrested Friday night the boy was not with him.

Julian King, 7, remained missing.

"I just can't fathom something like this happening," said Ethel Grisom, a family friend. "The entire family were just real friendly people who enjoyed being together. This is going to be devastating for them."

About 3 p.m., a relative found Darnell Donerson, 57, fatally shot in her living room, law enforcement officials said. The relative notified authorities, who found Jason Hudson, 29, dead in a bedroom.

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots about 9 a.m. There were no signs of forced entry.

Donerson had been shot in the head and Jason Hudson in the chest, the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

Balfour's mother said that her son and Julia Hudson were separated and that Donerson had thrown him out of the family home last winter. Michele Balfour denied that her son had anything to do with the slayings.

"I didn't raise no murderer," she said. "He was not a child abductor. They have the wrong person." She pleaded with Julian's kidnapper to return him to his mother.

On Friday afternoon, scores of onlookers flocked to the street corner nearest the Hudsons' South Side home, pressing against yellow police tape for a glimpse of the house. Evidence technicians and police officers came and went, and the house's lights stayed on as the sky grew darker and rain squalls scattered the dwindling crowd.

Many neighbors' thoughts turned to Jennifer Hudson, who returned home to visit her mother as often as twice a month. Hudson could walk through the neighborhood without anyone hassling her or following her with a camera.

"She never had no problems with fans stalking her," neighbor Vanessa Stanton said. "The whole neighborhood block would look out for her."

Hudson famously left her Burger King job to compete in the 2004 season of "American Idol." She finished seventh and endured harsh words from judge Simon Cowell.

But her five-octave range helped win her the role of Effie White in the 2006 musical film "Dreamgirls." Her on-screen rendition of "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" led to critical praise and an Oscar for best supporting actress.

I cannot even imagine the horror of what is happening with Jennifer Hudson and her situation right now with this incredibly horrifying and sad situation. It is terrible enough to lose any close family at anytime, but this is just insane.

The BlackRadioIsBack.com and FuseBox Radio Broadcast family defintely extends our deepest condolences in this tragedy.
What's up BlackRadioIsBack.com and FuseBox Radio Broadcast Folks!

Happy Friday to one and all!

We have some new Black Music here from the RBG (Red, Black and Green) end of the Hip-Hop spectrum from both the East and West Coasts of the U.S. for folks to check out along with some videos that we hope you enjoy or at least get folks to think a little bit.

First off, we're going to give the spotlight to the San Francisco Bay Area's long standing activist, producer & MC, Paris.

This University of California economics major came onto the national Hip-Hop scene with his brand of hard Black social and political commentary in 1990 with The Devil Made Me Do It album (released on Tommy Boy Records), wich had the MTV banned single "Break the Grip of Shame".

Before dropping his follow up album in 1992 (Sleeping with the Enemy), Paris was dropped by Tommy Boy Records and it's parent company, Time Warner due to fear of it's content, which included the fantasy revenge killings of the 1st President Bush and racist police officers (the track "Bush Killa"). That album was release independently through Scarface Records with critical acclaim and solid sales.

His next album, Guerrilla Funk, was distributed through Priority Records in 1993 along with other groups from the Scarface Records label, the most known of which being the Conscious Daughters.

After releasing Unleashed in 1997 (which had little funding from the Rykodisc-distributed Whirling Records label), Paris spent time to put together the independent label and media group Guerilla Funk Recordings.

Founded as a musical organization made to counter the corporate stranglehold of censorship currently plaguing the Entertainment Industry in general, Paris has used Guerilla Funk Recordings to put out not just his own new and re-mastered classic releases, but those of groups such as Public Enemy, Kam, dead prez, The Conscious Daughters, Mystic, MC Ren, Sun Rise Above, T-K.A.S.H (formerly of the Coup), The S.T.O.P. Movement and more.

His latest album, Acid Reflex, is dropping on October 28, 2008 through Guerrilla Funk Recordings and Filmworks, LLC, with distribution from Fontana/Universal.

Along with getting what should be a solid collection of music overall (especially with contributions with folks like Parliament/Funkadelic's George Clinton and Chuck D), here's a pretty fly contest Paris is doing as well for those who get his album 0 check the press release below:

San Francisco, CA - Forget spinners and diamonds, Bay Area rapper/activist Paris is putting his own spin on the "golden ticket" contest: a college education. Three randomly placed tickets will be slipped into copies of Paris' October 28th album, Acid Reflex, on his own Guerrilla Funk Recordings and Filmworks, LLC, distributed by Fontana/Universal. With three guaranteed winners, each prize is a ten-thousand dollar award redeemable as a scholarship towards any kind of post-high school education or towards housing expenses.

"We're living in the hardest economic times in recent memory, and this is a perfect way for me to try to ease the pain for my supporters," says Paris. "I realize that money is tight for many people and that music is becoming less and less of a priority when everything is rising but wages. This is not only a perfect way for me to express my gratitude to those who continue to support me, but to emphasize both the importance of higher education and the need to continue to support art of substance."

Next off, we have the Brooklyn, New York crew of the A-Alikes.

MCs K & Ness have been on the grind for a while through their independent releases (the most recent being the I Eat You Eat album through Nervous Records), as Source Magzine Unsigned Hype graduates and their powerful People's Army/R.B.G.'z afilliation (which include folks such as stic.man and M1 of dead prez).

Influenced by such classic Hip-Hop MCs like Kool G Rap, Nas and Tupac Shakur, here are the A-Alikes in their own words:

"We're here to re-define what the streets are, what revolution is, we want to re-define what it means to be gangsta, what it means to be conscience even...Cats is ready to organize and get on some shit. The economy's fucked up. The white tees and army gear have created a united look on the streets. There was a time when we emphasized our differences, like I'm from Philly, you from Cali, now we ready to talk about the ways we're the same, we not here to talk about how different we are from the next man, but how much the same we are. A lot of niggas in the game, they're whole shit is how much they don't give a fuck, our thing is, We give a fuck." - Ness

They have an upcoming documentary and soundtrack dropping on October 30, 2008 though Supreme Management/Guerilla Nation called The Ballot or the Bullet.

Directed by Paul Biedrzycki, this film's focus is not just following the A-Alikes while on tour the past few months, but to see and find out various viewpoints what is truly the meaning of "change" in regards to the U.S. Political Season with the upcoming Presidential Election. Folks like Chuck D of Public Enemy, Joy Bryant, Rosa Clemente, Immortal Technique and others are interviewed throughout the documentary about this issue.

The preview looks interesting and hopefully, this will be a thought provoking project along with being a quality "music artist on tour" video.

Give it a look below along with some extra A-Alikes videos from the past and a free download from the movie soundtrack:

Hey there BlackRadioIsBack.com and FuseBox Radio Broadcast family,

Just sharing this trailer from the upcoming DVD movie release of Cash Rules, dropping November 11, 2008 on Blackface Films/Babygrande.

The independent movie's plot is to cover a slice of life from the streets of Newark, NJ, that tells the story of hustlers, friends, family and the endless pursuit for the be-all end-all that rules life (and sometimes ends it) in so many hoods across the country: Cash.

This "negative film with a positive message" (to quote the press release), has a starring cast that includes Treach of Naughty By Nature (representing East Orange, NJ and classic Hip-Hop culture), J.D. Williams from the hit HBO series The Wire and many more folks.

Directed acclaimed music video director by Zodiac Fishgrease (who's done videos for folks such as Trick Daddy, Queen Latifah, Onyx and more), this movie looks like it will be pretty decent on the production end and storyline after checking out the preview.

Am definitely hoping for the best when this drops...what do y'all think?

What's good everyone,

Hope the week is starting off well and will continue doing so for y'all! :")

For those who are new to the site (and for those who aren't, glad you're still around), folks here at BlackRadioIsBack.com and the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast has a weekly section where BlackRadioIsBack.com hits up the people with some free promotional mixtapes and mixtape podcasts for download that we feel are pretty on point in highlighing great Black Music - not just from the FuseBox Radio/BlackRadioIsBack.com crew, but from all over the place.

To all of my peoples who hit me with hard copies or e-mails of mixtape and mixshow submissions, suggestions, websites and bootleg men (yes, for real, those "hit up so and so for the hot s***" info dropped on me) of various mixtape releases, I thank y'all a lot for supporting this venture.

So your blank CDs ready for these 12 joints and support the local mixtape bootleg man/mom and pop store, DJ, website, etc.

For my DJs, if you do good mixtapes of Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock, House, Reggae, Classics or are a music artist with your mixtape album out you don't mind having posted as promo on the web, feel free to hit the BlackRadioIsBack.com family up at blackradioisback@gmail.com with a link to your mixtape with cover and tracklisting - hopefully, we'll put your joint up on here in the future.

NOTE (as always):

PLEASE don't send me no B.S. with folks:

A. Yelling loud as hell over the song on some fake DJ Clue/DJ Kay Slay/DJ Khaled/Funkmaster Flex ish and I can't hear the damned song but 10 seconds of it (mics have volume control...thanks)

B. Mixtape "exclusives" that are on the radio - if its dope its dope, don't need the fake labeling

C. Overall wackness

* NOTE - These mixtapes are dirty versions, no radio edits! *

Check The BlackRadioIsBack.com Mixtape Of The Week Archives when you get a chance!
