Good Tuesday Afternoon BlackRadioIsBack.com and FuseBox Radio Broadcast folks - hope things are going well so far...

Folks have been bombarded with a nicer than usual percentage of cool independent Hip-Hop mixtapes as of late, which is ALWAYS a plus over around this way - if anything, it's putting a sis to work a lot more in regards to posting music on the site to share with y'all. :)

NOTE: Trust, usually for every 1 mixtape that's great, there are about 5 that are meh/so-so and 10 that are just a hot mess of gunshots, yelling over a mic & imitation DJ Drama/DJ Kay Slay/DJ Clue/DJ Khaled yelling over 72% of the song, which could be an "exclusive" 1000000 DJs already have.

Anyway, the latest independent Hip-Hop mixtape that gets the FuseBox Radio/BlackRadioIsBack.com Seal of Black Music Approval is from California's own BlackSoultan.

This MC has performed & worked with dope Hip-Hop folks around his way in L.A. such as X-Clan, Slick Rick, Medusa, Acelyone, Soleternity (music producer for Young Buck, Bone Crusher, Lil Scrappy & Bizzy Bone), Trenseta, Madam Brown and Flawliss Victory. BlackSoultan's 2nd album, Nuclear Winter, will be dropping in the near future.

I'm definitely feeling BlackSoultan's flow and rhyme scheme (which matches up great with his production & beat selection), as well as the fact that the subject matter he rhymes about is diverse - no iCoonery lyrics allowed.

In the meantime, cop the free download of BlackSoultan's latest mixtape, Angels & Demons, below, give the project a listen and let us know what you think - hope you enjoy it!

Good Early Tuesday Morning to our folks here at BlackRadioIsBack.com and the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast! :)

This past Saturday, I hit up the Washington, D.C. stop of the Sneaker Pimps Tour in D.C. Star.

Here's a brief description from the official Sneaker Pimps website on what they're about:

Sneaker Pimps is the worlds largest touring sneaker hip-hop lifestyle exhibition featuring over 1500 pairs of rare, limited edition, vintage, celebrity signed, artists collaborated sneakers and a collection of sneaker inspired artwork, fashion and photography.

The tour also features live street art installations, live skateboarding demonstrations, street basketball competitions and live hip-hop and rock performances by some of the world's foremost recording artists.

The Sneaker Pimps Tour was founded in Sydney, Australia by Peter Fahey and has traveled to more than 60 cities world-wide and put on over 200 shows since 2003.

Over 500 of the worlds top and up & coming street artists have contributed original works to the Sneaker Pimps World Tour, including: Futura, Dave White, Stash, Mister Cartoon, Shepard Fairey, Tokidoki, Dave Kinsey, SBTG, Methamphibian, Doze, Bigfoot, Tkid, Cope2, London Police, Dalek, Claw Money, Lady Pink, Ghost and many more.

Pretty sweet sounding right? Worth dodging some hipsters, confused people (wearing a dress & stilletos at an event called SNEAKER PIMPS? Really? Looking lost as all get out) and MTV/BET/VH1 freaks (SMH at some folks not even grooving to folks like Wale & J. Cole until they threw up "The Roc" sign), so I thought.

After waiting over an hour for pre-paid tickets in line after arriving around 8:15 pm to a huge line of people (bleh at that madness), folks got in and got to check out a really great showcase of DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia) Hip-Hop talent performing on stage, including Ra The MC, Phil Ade, X.O., Kingpen Slim, Wale (with his touring Go-Go Music band, Uncalled 4 Experience aka UCB) & the Clipse who deserve serious co-signage & respect.

The brother J. Cole (recent signee to Roc Nation who's latest mixtape has been killing it) also came through and rocked the house as well.

DJ Heat (dope lady DJ who spins on DC radio station WPGC & founder of the great DMV Music website DCMumboSauce.com) was doing her thing playing the old & new school Hip-Hop in between sets and bro DJ Alizay was rocking it as the host of the event in the area.

Here are some pics and video a sis was able to take of the enviornment of what was a really great night - hopefully it'll give you a taste of some of the Black Music goodness that went down...enjoy! :)

Yours Truly, DJ Fusion, In Attendance (was rocking the ill "Blue Note Records Edition" Adidas for the occasion as well)

The People & the Sneakers

The Performers

Ra The MC - unfortunately, my camera was acting wacky video wise when the show started & the sis opened as the 1st performer, so I got no video & this pic, but she tore it down; get her mixtape, "A Trip to Neptune" mixed by DJ M.A.F. here

Phil Ade - him, his hypeman & band KILLED it, high energy, good song transitions, etc....Raheem DeVaughn did a good look singing him to his independent label, 368 Music Group, check out his latest mixtape,"Starting on JV", here

Video: Phil Ade Performing Live at Sneaker Pimps, DC (Sat. July 28, 2009)

X.O. - Washington, DC MC, his vibe & music set was a little more subdued than the other performers during the night, but the put it in, especially lyrically; camera unfortunately was acting wonky again with the video when he was performing for the video; cop his latest mixtape, "Studio 43 Presents: X.O. - Monumental" here

Some pics of North Carolina Hip-Hop MC J. Cole - video function on the camera was acting wonky again during his performance, but copped these performance pics; check out his recent mixtape, "The Warm Up" here

Video: Kingpen Slim & The Beam Up Crew Performing Live at Sneaker Pimps, DC (Sat. July 28, 2009) (most recent mixtape, "Five Dollar High" here)

Video: Wale & UCB Performing Live at Sneaker Pimps, DC (Sat. July 28, 2009)

This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of July 15, 2009 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary.

Our commentary this week focused on the current U.S. Supreme Court nomination hearings for Judge Sonia Sotomayor and how race & class are coloring this situation, lessons that could be learned from the unfortunate situations and passing of sports legends Steve McNair & Arturo Gatti (R.I.P.), the Williams Sisters recent wins at Wimbelton & their continuing non-profit work for the community, and some other things here and there.

We had a great interview this week with up and coming independent singer and MC Raymond B of Black Magic Entertainment (http://www.myspace.com/raybeezy7).

Some of the topics we discussed was his background in Tennessee & how his family, friends and others got him involved in the love of music, his upcoming business and music projects, how life has been as a successful independent artist in the U.S. South and the work and grind it needs to make it, experiences in the music industry and other things!

This week we do have new Black Agenda Report segment. The Direct EFX segments will return at the end of the HBCU's college summer break period in September.

Feel free to check out some recent episodes of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast here on BlackRadioIsBack.com - all of the shows are clean/radio friendly.
