BlackRadioIsBack.com/FuseBox Radio Broadcast Inauguration Coverage: The Young and Powerful Group Launch Event

What's up this Friday Evening BlackRadioIsBack.com & FuseBox Radio Broadcast family! :)

While I'm up in the spot getting over a cold, it's time to get started on recapping our Inauguration Weekend with BlackRadioIsBack.com's & FuseBox Radio Broadcast's Coverage.

Our first location we went to in DC to check out how the different sides of Black America were celebrating the election of President Barack Obama was The Young and Powerful Group's Launch Event.

The best description of Young and Powerful Group is about comes directly from their website:
Young & Powerful for Obama (Y&P) was formed in February 2007 as a group of emerging professionals serving as role models and leaders in local, national, and global communities.

Given the mission of the group, Y&P members represent a multitude of politically-oriented backgrounds: organizing, fund raising, lobbying, policy, and law. There are also representatives from the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, business, medicine, entertainment, and media. No matter the profession, one similarity stays constant...all members bear a commitment to service and the upward mobility of their community.

In the past year, Y&P has raised over $150,000 nationally, with more than 10,000 donors supporting the Obama for America campaign. The group's efforts have garnered national media attention, including The Washington Post, Black Enterprise Magazine, and many other media outlets.

Held on Friday, January 17, 2009 over at the Capitol Hill Holiday Inn Ballroom, the formal program included hosting by 93.9 WKYS radio host Jeannie Jones as well speeches by My'Ron McGee (the co-founder of Young & Powerful), Marvin Dickerson (the president of the Greater Washington, DC area chapter of 100 Black Men) & DC Native and R&B singer Mya along with poetry by Olu Burrell.

They also has up some great Obama inspired art on display:

Afterwards, the party vibe definitely got started and kicked in with WKYS' DJ Premonition on the wheels playing everything from Old School to Hip-Hop (with the eventuality of the Electric Slide, folks acting up on stage and Stepping in the Name of Love, Obama or whatever was on folk's minds):

The event closed out with an insanely good live performance by R&B singer and DC native Raheem De Vaughn (if you're still sleeping on this brother's music, check out his offical website here and support those albums ASAP, he is serious).

It was a good time and a great start to a VERY long weekend of events showing all different sides of Black America.

Check out our video of Mya and Raheem De Vaughn below as well as our pictures of the event below - hope you enjoy!
